Threads engagement rate calculator
Work out a post's engagement rate by views and by followers, see both formulas, and learn which one to use when.
Enter a post's numbers from Threads insights. Leave any you don't have empty.
Engagement rate by views
—
(likes + replies + reposts + quotes + shares) ÷ views × 100
Engagement rate by followers
—
(likes + replies + reposts + quotes + shares) ÷ followers × 100
Interactions: 0
Two ways to measure engagement
Engagement rate tells you how many people did something with a post, compared with how many could have. There's no single official formula, so it's worth knowing which one you're looking at.
By views compares interactions with the number of times the post was seen:
(likes + replies + reposts + quotes + shares) ÷ views × 100
By followers compares interactions with the size of your audience:
(likes + replies + reposts + quotes + shares) ÷ followers × 100
The calculator shows both. Leave out any number you don't have — for example, if you don't track shares, the rate is worked out from the rest.
Which one to use
- Use the view-based rate to compare your posts with each other. It tells you how well a post did with the people who actually saw it, whether it reached 300 people or 30,000.
- Use the follower-based rate to track your account over time, or to compare accounts. It mixes how far a post travelled with how much people liked it, so a post that reached far beyond your followers can show a rate above 100%.
Whichever you pick, use the same formula every time. A rate only means something next to other rates measured the same way.
Where to find the numbers
Threads shows insights for your own posts and profile in the app. Through the Threads API, Meta provides per-post views, likes, replies, reposts, quotes and shares, and account-level followers (Threads API: Insights). Meta marks post views and shares as metrics still in development, so small differences between tools are normal.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Numbers keep moving. A post collects most of its views in the first day or two, but not all of them. Compare posts at the same age.
- Replies in a thread. Insights for a thread's first post don't include replies further down the chain.
- Followers change. For a follower-based rate, use your follower count from around the time you posted.
What's a good engagement rate?
We don't give a benchmark here, on purpose. Rates depend heavily on the account's size, topic and audience, and on which formula is used, and published "averages" rarely say how they were measured. The most useful comparison is with yourself: your recent posts, measured the same way. If a type of post keeps beating your own median, make more of it.
Questions
Do my own replies count? For a fair rate, leave them out: count replies from other people.
Why can the follower rate be over 100%? Because a post can be seen and liked by people who don't follow you.
Is anything I type sent to Govir? No. The calculator runs in your browser.
Can Govir track this for me? Yes. Once you connect your account, Govir shows your posts' engagement, your best posts and how your account changes over time.
